On June 08, 2018 The Secretariat for Submissions on Environmental Enforcement Matters of the U.S. – Peru Trade Promotion Agreement hosted environmental law students from American University in Washington D.C.

The Executive Director Dino Delgado Gutierrez explained the Secretariat’s history and mandates. The students, taught by American University professor and environmental law expert David Hunter, posed questions on diverse topics including the Secretariat’s functions and the importance of the Free Trade Agreements to enhance sustainable development.

Dino Delgado, Executive Director of the Secretariat for Submissions on Environmental Enforcement Matters, offered an interview to explain the Secretariat’s functions and mandates contained in articles 18.8 and 18.9 of the U.S. – Peru Trade Promotion Agreement’s .

“Una Solicitud sobre Asuntos de Cumplimiento Ambiental es un documento elaborado por una persona natural o jurídica, de Perú o Estados Unidos, que considera que uno de estos países está dejando de aplicar su legislación ambiental. Esta Solicitud, debe ser presentada a la Secretaría, ya sea por correo postal o electrónico, cumpliendo con los requisitos detallados en el artículo 18.8 del Acuerdo.”

On June 19, 2017 the Secretariat for Environmental Matters under the Dominican Republic – Central America – United States (CAFTA-DR) Free Trade Agreement, organized the workshop “Submissions on Enforcement Matter/Factual Records”, in San Jose – Costa Rica.

The aim of the event was to share information on how the environmental enforcement mechanisms operates, promote a better understanding of the important role governments and civil society play in its procedures, and review best-practices for outreach activities of existing processes.

Mr. Dino Delgado, Executive Director of the Secretariat for Submissions on Environmental Enforcement Matters, was invited to participate in the aforementioned workshop.

Mr. Delgado takes office as Executive Director of the Secretariat for Submissions on Environmental Enforcement Matters of the U.S. – Peru Trade Promotion Agreement.

In accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the United States of America, the Government of the Republic of Peru, and the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States; The Secretariat is located in Washington D.C. – United States, in the Organization of American States.

Mr. Delgado was selected as Executive Director on November 3, 2016, through Decision 3 of the Environmental Affairs Council of the U.S. – Peru Trade Promotion Agreement.
